Where we’ve been – a history

1974
Phillips Publishing launched by Thomas L. Phillips, pioneering the newsletter concept.

1985
Phillips purchases Cardiac Alert, our first foray into health publishing.

1991
Launch of Julian Whitaker’s Health & Healing newsletter, which quickly became one of the largest circulation health publications in the country.

1993
Nutritional supplement subsidiary, Doctors’ Preferred, Inc. was founded.

1995
Launch of newsletter with Stephen Sinatra, M.D., which has evolved into today’s Heart, Health & Nutrition.

1997
Acquisition of Dr. David Williams’ Mountain Home Publishing and Alternatives newsletter brand.

2000
Our first branded company website was launched, www.drwhitaker.com. Today we have seven advisor-focused websites and growing.

2000
Phillips joins forces with Susan Lark, M.D. to provide health advice and counsel to women, with launch of Women's Wellness Today and www.drlark.com.

2003
Naturally Well Today newsletter launches, authored by naturopathic physician Dr. Marcus Laux. Phillips also creates branded website, www.drmarcuslaux.com.

2004
ACI Capital Co., Inc and American Securities Capital Partners, LLC, both New York-based private equity investment firms, acquired a majority of the assets of Phillips Health, LLC in partnership with the company’s existing management. 

2004
Acquisition of Janet Luhrs’ Simple Living newsletter and www.simpleliving.com.

Phillips Health, LLC officially renamed Healthy Directions, LLC. The company includes publishing and natural products subsidiary Healthy Directions Publishing, LLC and nutritional supplement subsidiary, Doctors’ Preferred, LLC.
