POTOMAC, Md., May 26, 2005—Susan Lark, MD, noted clinical nutritionist and women’s health pioneer, has formulated Daily Balance Probiotic Answer, a nutritional supplement formula to help keep women’s digestive systems strong and running smoothly and efficiently. Dr. Lark’s Probiotic Answer is available exclusively through Doctors’ Preferred, LLC, a subsidiary of Healthy Directions, one of the largest North American direct-mail supplement distributors.

According to Dr. Lark, many women have a digestive system that’s out of balance, causing such common symptoms as bloating, flatulence, irregularity and indigestion. “Strengthening and balancing your digestive system is one of the best ways to ensure glowing health,” says Dr. Lark, “because your digestive system is the only way your cells can actually get the vitamins, minerals and nutrients they need from the food you eat. So it’s not just what you eat, but how well you absorb what you eat.”

Probiotic Answer supports two distinct but complementary functions necessary for optimal digestive health:

  • Improves your digestion with a range of enzymes. Your body needs digestive enzymes to break down foods into molecules that can pass through the intestinal wall and be absorbed by your cells. The cells, in turn, convert these molecules into energy. Dr. Lark’s formula contains a full range of digestive enzymes—10 in all—that the body uses to break down carbohydrates, protein and fat.

  • Balances your intestinal flora with health-promoting live bacteria. There are over 400 different species of natural and necessary bacteria that live in your intestines. They help break down hard-to-digest foods, promote healthy bowel movements, support immune system activity and fortify the walls of your digestive tract, balancing your intestinal flora. Dr. Lark’s formula contains two important strains of live, active bacteria specially encapsulated in tiny “beadlets” that protect them from your stomach acid so they can reach your intestines alive and get to work.

“What’s wonderful about this formula is that you’re going to notice improvements in the way you feel right away,” says Dr. Lark. “So much of our life as women centers around the kitchen and table,” adds Dr. Lark. “I’d like to see women regain pleasurable associations with food, to feel comfortable in their bodies, and achieve stronger overall health for years to come.”

Dr. Lark has devoted her career to raising awareness of women’s health issues, such as obesity, hormone replacement therapy and osteoporosis. She pioneered the use of women’s self-care treatments based on diet, nutrition, exercise and stress management, and has penned a number of books, including The Estrogen Decision and her most recent title, which she co-authored, The Chemistry of Success: Six Secrets of Peak Performance.

Her monthly newsletter, Women's Wellness Today, with a circulation of more than 90,000 subscribers, and her web site, www.drlark.com, are dedicated to educating and empowering women to make the best choices for optimum health. Online visitors may sign up for Dr. Lark’s free biweekly e-newsletter, which presents breaking health news along with lifestyle tips, easy recipes and simple exercises for health and well-being.

(Potomac, MD) -- Janet Luhrs, internationally-recognized leader in the world of simplicity, has joined Phillips Health (PH Opco, LLC), to publish her monthly newsletter Simple LivingTM and Web site www.simpleliving.com. Ms. Luhrs gave up a career in law to practice mindful simplicity, and to educate others about the abundance this lifestyle offers. She has been writing and self-publishing Simple Living since 1993.

Through her newsletter and Web site, Ms. Luhrs will offer readers guidance on a wide variety of topics that will help them live a more deliberate, simple life. She will present strategies for managing finances, reducing clutter, living better on less, enjoying exotic vacations at lower prices, and much more. Janet Luhrs is the author of The Simple Living Guide: A Sourcebook for Less Stressful, More Joyful Living, a comprehensive discussion of strategies and resources that help you manage every aspect of your life. Ms Luhrs has also written Simple Loving: A Path to Deeper, More Sustainable Relationships.

"Simple living is about living deliberately," says Ms. Luhrs. "You choose your existence rather than sailing through life on automatic pilot. It’s about making deliberate, thoughtful choices. Being fully aware of why you are living your particular life, and that your life is one you have chosen thoughtfully."

As a leader in the voluntary simplicity movement, Ms. Luhrs leads seminars across the country to help people save time, enhance their health, learn how to make their money work for them -- and teach them how to say "no" and enjoy life. She inspires people to prioritize the things that compete for their time, while also offering practical advice, products, tips, and strategies to help them gain a greater sense of well-being.

"While prosperity and dual-incomes have enabled Americans to enjoy unprecedented options -- doing more, owning more, achieving more -- they have also created a complexity that cause many people to feel overwhelmed and lose sight of their true purpose, of who they are," explains Linda Werner, Vice President, Women’s Group, Phillips Health. "Janet shows you how to ‘strip your meaningless things away and enjoy your prosperity with more ease and flow.’ And isn’t that what we’re all looking for?"

Susan Lark, MD, and Phillips Health Create Formula to Support Overall Brain Health, Mental Performance and Memory

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Jennifer Myers at (301) 340-7788, ext. 6120 or Julie Kaplan at (301) 340-7788, ext. 1160

(POTOMAC, Md., July 7, 2004) -- Susan Lark, MD, noted medical researcher, clinical nutritionist and women’s health practitioner, has formulated a new nutritional supplement for women called Daily Balance Memory Answer, designed to nourish the brain and enhance women’s ability to focus, concentrate, recall details and stay mentally motivated and sharp. Dr. Lark’s memory formula is available exclusively through Doctors’ Preferred, Inc. (DPI), a subsidiary of Phillips Health, one of the largest North American direct-mail supplement distributors.

"Starting in their thirties, many women experience a noticeable decrease in their attention span and their ability to recall a name or word that’s on the tip of their tongue," says Dr. Lark. "My patients often complain of a distracted feeling and slower thought processing."

While a healthy diet and moderate exercise can help improve memory, Dr. Lark has brought together eight nutrients that also play a key role.

Daily Balance Memory Answer includes:

  • Chinese Skullcap and Acacia -- Known as LasoperinTM, a proprietary herbal blend that has been the subject of a recent study. Preliminary findings suggest LasoperinTM improves focus, attention and speed of processing.
  • DMAE -- Used by the body to create choline, possibly the most crucial nutrient for proper brain function, an essential building block for acetylcholine (ALC) and the neurotransmitter responsible for thinking and memory.
  • Tyrosine -- By enhancing levels of dopamine, the "cheerleader" neurotransmitter in your brain that makes you feel energized and motivated, this nutrient helps promote mental functioning under stress.
  • Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) -- ALA, along with LasoperinTM and ALC complete a trio of powerful antioxidants that can pass through the blood-brain barrier to help neutralize free radicals and help keep individual brain cells healthy and active.
  • Ginkgo biloba -- A "memory" herb that enhances blood circulation to the brain. A recent study suggests it improves attention and performance on memory tests of post-menopausal women.
  • Folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 -- Nutrients that convert the amino acid homocysteine into the building blocks for neurotransmitters.

"This formula can make a tremendous difference in the way women enjoy their busy lives," says Dr. Lark. "With all of the exciting advancements in brain health, mental fog is not something we have to live with anymore."
