David L. Katz

Dr. David L. Katz has dedicated his career to making good health accessible to everyone. Over the past 30 years he has used his knowledge in nutrition, weight management and the prevention of chronic disease to help people feel more alive, vibrant, and connected. He’s on a mission to add years to life and more life to every year for people around the world, regardless of their background, location, or resources.

A Diverse and Impactful Career

Dr. Katz's holds a BA from Dartmouth College, an MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and an MPH from Yale University. He is board-certified in internal medicine and preventive medicine, with a special focus on nutrition and lifestyle medicine.

He served as a clinical instructor at Yale School of Medicine and spent 15 years in clinical practice. He is the founding director of the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center, where he led pioneering research in preventive health.

In addition to his research work, Dr. Katz founded the True Health Initiative, a nonprofit organization that promotes healthy living as the key to preventing disease. Through this global initiative, he seeks to challenge misinformation and brings together health leaders from nearly 50 countries to build a global consensus around the idea that lifestyle is medicine.

Dr. Katz is also an entrepreneur, having founded Diet ID, Inc., a company that uses innovative tools to assess and improve dietary habits. He was the Chief Medical Advisor for the formulation of Instaflex® Advanced, focusing on nature-inspired ingredients and solutions for joint health, with clinical studies showing improved joint mobility. He is also the Chief Medical Officer for Tangelo, a service providing food as medicine, delivering meals to individuals based on their health conditions.

His career includes media appearances, including two years as an on-air expert for Good Morning America, and he’s an accomplished author and health journalist, having written or co-authored 19 books and published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles. His ability to break down complex health science into easy-to-understand advice has made him a sought-after speaker and writer on nutrition, chronic disease prevention, and wellness.

Dr. Katz embraces a holistic approach to health, integrating physical and mental well-being. His varied personal interests, from equestrian activities and carpentry to skiing and creative writing, reflect his belief that a balanced life contributes to overall wellness. His curiosity and creativity influence both his personal pursuits and his professional work.

Dr. Katz's commitment to health is shared by his family. He is married to Catherine Katz, a neuroscientist and culinary expert, who plays an important role in his mission through her work in culinary medicine, which emphasizes the importance of healthy eating. Together, they share a deep passion for nutrition and healthy living and are the proud parents of five grown children.

His contributions to public health have been recognized with numerous awards, including three honorary doctorates and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Doctors’ World Gala in 2023. He was also a 2019 James Beard Foundation Award nominee for his work in health journalism.

Dr. Katz is a fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the American College of Preventive Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. He also holds multiple US patents related to health and nutrition innovations.
